FAQ’S

As the name implies this set will work for solo violin, duo of violin and cello, trio of two violins and cello and string quartet.

It has been specifically arranged to work for all of these combinations and funny enough there were few changes to be made, if at all, for much of the music when I had the original for referral.

Do the arrangements work for a trio of violin, viola and cello as well?

Yes. Our violist, for example, uses the second violin part but it’s not necessary. Just my preference to keep the harmonies a bit tighter. The violin II is generally written in harmonies closer to the first violin so that it carries well in louder situations which is often the nature of a party or wedding gig for example. You can also use the violin I, va and cello parts of course.

Specifications for the book sets:

Glossy Kromekote paper for the front and back covers, laser printed on 32lb high quality bright white paper, spiral bound for ease of layout

Will you be doing other set collections?

I have several good collections in the making Please keep checking back and let me know if you want me to notify you.

What is your music background in arranging?

My theory and composition studies in college prepared me for the growing challenges my clients created for music that wasn’t always always available for string quartet or the arrangements available were too difficult or had other qualities that caused one to search for other options. I have been arranging music for over 20 years and have done hundreds of special arrangements for our string group. And I also have some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians to let me know where I make the mark and don’t (my son being my toughest critic) and so it’s been a really good learning experience!

Can your arrangements be used for flute, bassoon, etc?

I think they’d work fine. I’ve had flutes and oboes sit in on the violin parts and with the exception of a few range considerations, which can be tweaked or moved to a little higher key for example, the performances went fine and were actually beautiful with winds on the upper parts. I might have to, here and there, work more on the bass line for a bassoon but would probably get good rather quickly after studying some bass line work.  Let me know the piece(s) and I’ll brush up on the woodwind ranges. I’ve only done a little work with winds to date, being totally honest, but if you see something you like then I’m game to present you with my best try and we can call it a no charge if I fail to meet your expectations. If I’m not overly booked at the time then I’ll give the piece a go. As for a whole set, I’d most likely layout a couple of pieces and if that works after your review then will proceed with the entire project.

Are you planning to do cello quartet arrangements?

Yes! I have a few already but will be working on more as soon as I finish my 3rd set called Cocktails Anyone?
